Rebecca Weaver-University of Florida-Phi Lamb Pledge class: 2006
We are blessed to feature a University of Floridagraduate who participated in the World Race. Find out about her life changing journey! The World Race is an 11 month journey to 11 different countries to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the "least of these" in this world, while learning to live in true community with other believers.
The most exciting thing to happen to Rebecca has been the World Race. She had the privilege of being the hands and feet of Jesus in some of the darkest places in this world, and her life has been forever changed.
Rebecca said, "Phi Lamb absolutely helped prepare me for the World Race. Part of the world race experience is learning what it looks like to live in healthy community with others. My experience in Phi Lamb accountability groups, already gave me a glimpse of what healthy and challenging community looks like. I also went on multiple mission trips through our Phi Lamb chapter, which is what initially ignited a passion in my heart for missions."
Through Phi Lamb and sisters in Phi Lamb she learned what it looks like to be the confident woman God created her to be. Throughout her four years in Sigma Phi Lambda, her relationship with the Lord reached a depth she never knew existed. It was here that she discovered her heart for missions through the three mission trips, which ultimately led her to participate in Race.
She first heard about the race through a good friend and Phi Lamb sister, Emily Milroy in the Summer of 2009. When she first mentioned it, Rebecca thought, "That's awesome for you, but I could never do something crazy like that!". However, the World Race wouldn't leave her thoughts, and the Lord kept confirming that the World Race was the direction He was taking her upon graduation. Despite fighting the idea for a few months she finally decided to apply for the October 2010 World Race.
Her advice to other women who are interested in participating in the World Race; "I would encourage them to step out on faith and go for it! My life was radically changed, and I experienced the Lord in ways I never dreamed possible all because I took a step of faith to follow where He was leading. I would encourage them not to let money be an issue holding them back from going. Nothing is impossible for our God!"
The Bible verse that has made the biggest impact In Rebecca's life is Hebrews 12:1-3.
