We are excited to share that five Phi Lamb actives and alumnae came together to run the Austin Half Marathon on February 19th. Heidi Zimmerman who is the current University of Texas president ran and was joined by Sunni Petty, an alumna of Southwestern University who serves as a regional director in Phi Lamb. There were three Texas Tech alumnae as well: Alana Chapa-Sendejas, Michelle Hurst, and our executive director, Tobi McMillan.
These women represented our team, Phi Lamb Loves World Vision. While training for the race, they also raised money for World Vision’s work in Africa, providing access to clean water to those need. To date the team has raised almost $2,500 for this cause. They received donations from friends and family, hosted a spaghetti dinner the night before the race, and sold Phi Lamb/World Vision t-shirts to raise money.
This was Phi Lamb’s first team race since choosing World Vision as our national philanthropy. We would like to continue to do at least one race a year to give Phi Lambs the opportunity to support the work of World Vision in this way. We are looking at running the White Rock Marathon/Half Marathon in Dallas in December of 2012. If you are interested in joining this team or would like to do a different race in your area to benefit World Vision, you can email
for more information.
